When we opened the doors to our King’s Cross Shack, we wanted the space to feel just as lively and full of character as the station itself.
King’s Cross is one of London’s busiest travel hubs, a place where commuters, tourists, students and locals all cross paths every day. So when it came to the artwork inside the Shack, we wanted something that captured those everyday moments.
Introducing illustrator Hollie Fuller, whose playful and joyful style now lives across the Shack’s walls.
We caught up with Hollie to talk about her creative journey, the inspiration behind her artwork, and of course, her Shake Shack order.
Meet Hollie Fuller
SS: First things first, tell us about yourself
HF:My name is Hollie, and I’m a freelance illustrator from the North of England
SS: What’s your background in art? How did you get started?
HF: Drawing was always my biggest hobby as a child, and I thrived in creative subjects at school. I studied fine art, photography and creative writing at college and then during my foundation year, I decided to study illustration at university. I never expected this to become my job, but I could never see myself doing anything else.
SS: How would you describe your artistic style?
HF: I would describe my style as playful, fun, and silly. I hope that it’s joyful and relatable.

SS: What was your reaction when Shake Shack reached out?
HF: I’m always so flattered whenever anyone reaches out to work together; I never take it for granted when a client trusts me with a project. But it’s super special and quite surreal to be recognised by a global chain like Shake Shack.
SS: What’s the story behind the artwork at King’s Cross?
HF: It’s inspired by the everyday moments of the everyday people who’ll be passing through King’s Cross.
SS: How do you hope people feel when they see your art?
HF: I hope that it spreads a little bit of joy or brightens up somebody’s day.
SS: Food and art – do they go hand in hand?
HF: I am known for snacking whilst working, and I have worked on some food-inspired projects last year! Think: picnic stickers, veggie mini prints, and pudding-inspired chocolate packaging.
SS: Any hobbies outside of art?
HF: Drawing has always been my main hobby, and I’m so lucky that it became my job. I try to read as often as I can, whenever my busy brain allows! I’m an occasional crocheter and occasional swimmer.
SS: And finally… what’s your Shake Shack order?
HF: I’ve been vegetarian for over 10 years, so I really do appreciate a good veggie burger (no mushrooms though please!), and I’m big on sharing sides, so always fries and onion rings.
Next time you’re passing through King’s Cross…
Take a look around the Shack; Hollie’s illustrations are dotted throughout the space, celebrating the everyday characters and moments that make King’s Cross such a unique place.
And while you’re there? You might as well grab a burger.
